CBJ Digital Newsletter – Winter 2008 This newsletter is being distributed to all our clients and those with whom we have been in touch over the past year or so. A potential customer or client is very likely to get their first impression and understanding of your business from your website. Two things follow: first - can they easily find your site through the search engine in the first place? Second – when they get to the site, does it really reflect “who you are”, the quality of your products or services, and does it generate confidence in your organisation? Hint: Keep your website up to date - that menas more often than annually! Update the text at last every few months if not more often. If you are using one of our sites, let us remind you how to do that if you have forgotten. The more static a site is, the lower down the search engine rankings it goes. Keep it fresh! Keep it interesting! Keep it updated! Have you considered adding a blog or discussion forum to your site? It is an opportunity to engage you customers and other visitors; it keeps the search engines happy (regular changes) and offers you the opportunity to provoke feedback on whatever subject you choose. Have a look at the provocative musings of our author client, Mel Menzies at http://www.melmenzies.co.uk/blog/ and contact us if you are interested in adding such a feature to your site. Firefox v3 (3.0.5 actually) is available – do you have your automatic update settings on? This is our recommended browser . When new browsers are released they can have unintended consequences for established websites, particularly those with rich functionality. Although we try to pick these things up when they happen, we are unable to check all the sites we host on all browser versions. You may (think you) know what your site looks like – but do check it from time to time using the latest browser version whether it be IE, Firefox or Safari (or even Google's new Chrome!) If it doesn’t look right, then let us know. It is always best to update to the latest browser versions simply for added security for your own system – but there are sometimes some useful new bits and pieces available in the latest releases. If you would like to explore Firefox and have not done so yet, go to www.getfirefox.com. 
We have recently welcomed two new members to our team. Onwah Tsang (“call me Oni!”) is strengthening our development team in Holmes Chapel. Michelle Burgess has just joined us in Holmes Chapel to focus on marketing and business development in the north (at least north of Watford!). Both have a background in web design and development and we are delighted to have them on board. This is probably the last newsletter using our present corporate style – we shall be going contemporary(!) in the near future and updating our website and corporate logo. Thanks for that go to Becca – our excellent and creative designer. By the way, if you want some design support for marketing material in print, do contact us. Becca’s talents extend beyond the web! It is worth understanding what gets your site to the top. Have a word with us if you would like to know more about your own site’s search engine ranking and how it can be significantly improved. Good site infrastructure is essential - not all website developers get this right and it can have a major imact on your visibliity. Christmas Arrangements (or Finally!)
