Autumn 2007 Newsletter
Dear Clients and Friends
As leaves begin to turn, and the beautiful surroundings of Aldenham Golf and Country Club (one of our sites) challenge images of New England in the Fall, the CBJ Digital Team is looking forward to an autumn and winter diet of welcoming new clients, taking on new work and making modifications or improvements to the many websites we now look after.
Recent contracts
We are delighted to have been awarded several prestigious new contracts: The Baring Archives – one of the most celebrated financial industry archives in the UK – have asked us to develop a site that will provide an opening to explore the huge index of interesting and valuable archive material that is linked to that dynastic family and the Bank they founded. Talking of famous names, we are also in the course of developing a site to celebrate the amazing botanist Miriam Rothschild in the context of a new Miriam Rothschild and John Foster Human Rights Trust website which will celebrate their fascinating and remarkable lives. We are also excited about a third contract, just recently confirmed: a new interactive and e-commerce site for the Watford and West Herts Chamber of Commerce which will go live early in 2008.
These three contracts and many others have come to us through individual recommendations. Please will you recommend CBJ Digital to your business associates, contacts and friends? We are delighted to offer advice and comment on existing sites without obligation and to give a quote for redevelopment and improvement. Our aim is Quality and Effective sites that work hard for the client. Have a look at http://www.cbjdigital.com/portfolio/ if you haven’t been there recently.
Search Engines
We are often asked how to get a site well recognised in the search engines. We have put together a short introduction to this topic but here are a few brief pointers so you can help your site get better visibility:
• Keep updating your site – search engines do not like sites that remain static. Unchanged sites will drop down the rankings.
• Use plenty of key words!! E.g. If you operate in Brickett Wood (where?), let the search engines know that this is near the M25, north of London, not far from St Albans and within easy reach of Watford, Aldenham, Bushey and Radlett! The word “dentist” is not the same as the word “dental” –use alternative words when describing what it is you are about.
• Make sure URLs (e.g. http://www.hrhiggins.co.uk/teas/fruit_flavoured/) are meaningful – the search engines like that. Don’t know how to do this? Please ask us.
• Try to get “links in”. That is to say, get as many friendly sites as you can to point to your site. However, don’t spend lots of money on SEO agencies unless you have run out of ideas! Please ask us for advice.
New website features
Later this year we are introducing a more formal page preview system and version control into the CBJ Digital AdminSystem. If this interests you, please let us know. In the meantime, have you considered RSS, feeds for your news page, Weblogs,or do you need a secure members’ areas for your site? We also have a feature for loading and playing MP3 tracks and HTML website integrated selective emailing. Do get in touch if these or other features might be relevant for your business.

“Sorry” ...
... and we would appreciate your feedback. We must apologise to those clients that were affected by an unacceptable drop in the reliability of the server we use for our sites earlier in the summer. These exceptional outages were, sadly, outside our control. Fortunately such events are very unusual. Nevertheless, we are actively considering offering the option of an enhanced level of server reliability by moving any business critical systems over to a new server. If you would like to discuss this option for your site, please let us know. Regrettably there are cost implications which need to be set against the level of reliability required.
Finally...
.... and on a positive note, please forward this Newsletter to anyone who you think could benefit from having a site designed and built by CBJ Digital. We thrive on our reputation and by new introductions from our existing happy customers. We hope you are one of them – either now or very soon.
Sincerely - Malcolm Iliff and Mike Thirlwell on behalf of the CBJ Digital Team – and, we welcome Sue Allen, now working in our Northwood office as our new part time administrative assistant.
